The Iowa Children's Museum
The mission of The Iowa Children's Museum is to inspire every child to imagine, create, discover and explore through the power of play. The Museum serves this mission through interactive exhibits, engaging hands-on programs and community outreach.
The Museum is a vibrant cultural attraction, educational family resource and vital element in the Iowa economy. By utilizing changing exhibits and expanding programming, visitor attendance has risen 69 percent in the past six years. We are proud to have received the Iowa City / Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau "2004" Attraction of the Year" award. Most recently, The Iowa Children's Museum was awarded the 2007 "Iowa Cultural Corridor Programming Excellence" and the "Corridor Business Journal's Innovative Excellence" awards for our dynamic exhibits and programs.
The Iowa Children's Museum is dedicated to educating children and strengthening families in a dynamic learning environment. The Museum is a unique family attraction and recognized as a leader in the field of informal learning through its innovative approach to providing hands-on exhibits and programs. The Iowa Children's Museum successfully serves a growing audience of more than 127,000 visitors annually while maintaining a net profit and operating at zero debt.
The Summer of 2009 will feature two traveling exhibits, "View from My Window," from VSA ARTS is a collection of art created by children with disabilities and "Children Just Like Me" is a multi-cultural exhibit that promotes cultural tolerance and understanding. The Iowa Children's Museum is very excited to also open a new, permanent exhibit, "Take Flight! the science of aviation."
