Children's Initiative - Johnson County

Juvenile Justice Youth Development Program

The Children’s Initiative is a special project of the Johnson County Juvenile Justice Youth Development Work Group & Policy Board. The Initiative was formed to enhance communication, increase awareness of services and facilitate early intervention efforts among law enforcement, the juvenile justice system, schools and agencies in Johnson County and to promote positive youth development activities in an effort to reduce juvenile crime and delinquency.

The Children’s Initiative raises funds to enable children to participate in cultural, recreational and educational activities of interest to the child. Children eligible to receive activity-fee scholarships may be experiencing homelessness, involved with the juvenile court system or from low-income families. The Children’s Initiative partners with local youth serving and family services agencies to receive referrals.

The Juvenial Justice Youth Development Policy Board, appointed by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, meets quarterly on the fourth Wednesday of August, November, February and May. For more information call 319.356.6090.
