From the President
In this season and in this year of recovery from challenges presented in 2008, our thoughts naturally turn to renewal and hope for new growth.
Since founding in 2000, the Community Foundation of Johnson County has served hundreds of people who share a common interest and concern – improving the quality of life in Johnson County. Anyone - individuals, families, businesses and organizations – can create permanent charitable funds to meet the challenges of the future.
The Community Foundation is unique in its ability to offer an investment tax credit of up to 25 percent for qualifying gifts. Because of the generosity of some key donors who contribute directly to our operations we can put all of your funds to work for the community.
Our Community Foundation leaders go beyond making grants to advance charitable activities. We strategically stimulate and allocate resources to address critical issues and help our county prepare for the future. The Community Foundation supports an array of needs including arts and culture, community development, ecumenical concerns, education, the environment, health and human services, and youth.
Our mission is to better our community by connecting people who care with causes that matter. The Community Foundation is an instrument for you to express your philanthropic goals and wishes to benefit others.
Contributors, through their funds at the Community Foundation, allow Iowa Citians like Andrew Sherburne and Liz Graf to rehab and rebuild their home after the devastating 2008 Flood. We listen to our donors and help them create charitable funds that reflect their interests. When you establish a fund at the Community Foundation, you are linked to the accomplishments of organizations you support, building a legacy forever.
Our volunteers also direct Community Foundation grants where they are most needed. Last year, the Community Foundation granted $633,050 to meet local needs, and we continue to build our $5.4 million endowment for future years. In 2009, many Community Foundation contributors engaged in helping 132 not-for-profit organizations carry out their programs and services.
The Community Foundation plans to make larger, more strategic grants to strengthen our Johnson County communities. Your Community Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life across a broad spectrum of needs and opportunities. We look forward to 2010 as a year of continued growth and success and thank all of our friends and supporters who share our passion for paying it forward . . .
For good . . . for ever
Casey Cook
2010 President
Community Foundation of Johnson County
