CFJC to offer scholarships for women’s conference

IOWA CITY – The Community Foundation of Johnson County has partnered with the Iowa Women’s Leadership Conference to offer scholarships to women working in nonprofit organizations in Johnson County.

Women who are registered for the 2011 Iowa Women’s Leadership Conference that will be held April 26-27 at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center may apply for a $150 scholarship to help defray the cost of participating.

CFJC Executive Director Mike Stoffregen said the conference is a great opportunity for women to gain tools and resources to succeed. “The conference inspires women of all backgrounds and ages to develop skills that will help them achieve in every aspect of life – business and personal. The Foundation’s support will provide women working in the nonprofit sector a means to participate.”

Diane Ramsey, Iowa Women’s Leadership Conference executive director, agrees. The conference gives women opportunities to share. “Women learn the importance of leadership and shortcuts to help them advance their careers and their communities. About 12 percent of The Corridor’s workforce are employed in the nonprofit sector. The Foundation’s support is important to develop skills and talent.”

Rockwell Collins has committed annual support to the women’s conference. In November, they hired Diane Ramsey as an executive director. The alternating biennial conference and luncheon that inspires and challenges women is held each year and features renowned and distinguished speakers.
